Beaches
- Dogs can go on the trains, but must remain on a leash.
- Large dogs may require the purchase of a separate train ticket for the dog.
- Most automated ticket kiosks have the option to add on a ticket for an “animal”. It is located on the same screen where you add the number of adults and children traveling.
- Be sure to carry the dog’s international passport with vaccination details.
- A muzzle must be available at all times
Public Bus
- ALL dogs must be muzzled on public buses.
- Small and medium-size dogs can travel free of charge on the buses, but must be held in the arms of the owner, put in a dog carrier, or kept on a short leash.
- Guide dogs for visually-impaired people can also travel for free.
- Non-aggressive large sized dogs are allowed to board the buses and require the purchase of an extra ticket. Dogs must be kept on a short leash. There are time limitations when large dogs are not allowed on the bus from 7:00 – 9:00, 12:00-14:00, and 17:00-19:00.
- If the buses are full, the driver has the right to refuse the animal on board.

Ferry
- Dogs are allowed on the ferry, but must remain on a leash and have a muzzle on.
- Usually there will be no extra charge applied.
- Be sure to carry the dog’s international passport with vaccination details.
Hiking Trails
- Dogs are allowed on the hiking trails, but must be kept on a leash at all times (even though the Italians let their dogs run free).
- Keep in mind some trails have steep steps and narrow paths that may be too difficult.
Beaches
- Most beaches have signs saying dogs are prohibited, but there are often dogs walking freely on the beach.
